I learned yesterday that my house used to be a grow-op. I guess that's what our landlord told my roommates. He said it was a grow-op before he purchased it. That's why there are bars on our windows.

Edited to add- "Grow-op" is slang for "grow operation", which means that my house was formerly a place where marijuana was grown.

ha, growing pot in a *house*... that's silly. isn't that what your neighbor's property is for? or your massive, publicly advertised marijuana farm right by the freeway?

Specifically, an illegal basement operation for growing large quantities of hydroponic pot to sell on the street, often backed by the Vietnamese mafia or Hell's Angels.

Alleged by most Vancouver newspapers to be firetraps because of their extensive lighting and humidity requirements, and their penchant for illegal electrical connections.

Spin-off phrase: "grow-rip", where a different (heavily armed?) criminal gang will break into the grow-op and seize all the pot they can grab from the original criminals.
