Happy Vancouversary to me!

Today is my Vancouversary. A year ago, I arrived at the Vancouver Airport, where I was greeted by the sexy B* who was wearing his sexy white cotton shirt. (Where is that shirt?) All in all, it's been a great year. In short, my only downfall was not gaining full time meaningful employment. I choose not to think about that today. Instead, let's look at some of the things that I have accomplished and enjoyed in the past year (in no particular order).

1. Became the owner of actual furniture and a cell phone (whoo!)
2. Wangled my way into four Vancouver book publishers
3. Successfully maintained a garden and compost
4. Met various authors including Wayson Choy, Ruth Ozeki, Ange Zhang, Joy Kogawa, and Evelyn Lau
5. Met two of my cousins (that I hadn't met before) and participated in an ancestor worship ceremony
6. Tasted Haggis wonton and got to wear my cheong sam at an actual event
7. Took on full time literary editor duties at Ricepaper
8. Learned more about kids' books
9. Managed to set up all BC insurance etc. Joined the BC Writers Federation and the Editors Association of Canada.
10. Gained a cover story for a national magazine
11. Published in two local publications
12. Did research for a travel writer
13. Saw concerts by Le Tigre, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Lucinda Williams, Metric, Stars and Rilo Kiley (possibly others, I can't remember)
14. Attended my second opera "Madam Butterfly"
15. Volunteered at the Vancouver International Writers Festival
16. Participated in a psoriasis research study
17. Reunited with my old friend Mike, who I'd lost touch with and happened to reunite with by chance
18. Spent time with my relatives on the island
19. Got involved with an activist group for people of colour/mixed race people
20. Watched a lot of movies and read a lot of books. Made major headway on the Oscar project.
21. Was joined in Vancouver by my former Montreal roommate Laura and my friend [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
22. Met some actual livejournal friends who live in Vancouver and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] who drove down for a day to have coffee with me and risked a snow storm, and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] who joined me for a dinner at Clove

25. Wrote some stories and poems
26. Gave a reading
27. Took some belly dancing
28. Made a website (with help, thank you!)
29. Saw celebrities at work including- Jessica Alba, Jason Biggs, Robin Williams, Michael J. Fox, and Kate Beckinsale (and most impressively, Kate Beckinsale's ass)
30. Cooked a lot of new recipes
31. Helped start a book club
32. Met a lot of cool people and new friends
33. Participated in a Harry potter launch party
34. Attended a very lovely wedding of a friend

38. Smoked a cigar which Fidel Castro may have touched.

And definitely not least, *Spent a lot of time with one of my favourite people. You know who you are, dude.*

This year, I'd like to find a job.

Other goals include-
1. Spending a lot of time with B*. Enjoying and exploring Boston and New York City in September and attending my first gay wedding.
2. Attending a drag king and a Burlesque show (anyone want to help me with this one?) [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]?
3. Taking a class in marketing
4. Getting better at belly dancing
