Cool realization

I was reading a rather depressing story about food inflation and global food riots in the Globe and Mail last week, when I had a rather pleasing revelation about my own life and skills. My background in international studies, and my experiences writing about agriculture may be quite a good combination in the future. As I increase my knowledge and experiences with these subjects (as I did this winter by my travels to the Philippines), I will become even more specialized and may develop a niche which would be valuable to the news media and lead me to further international experiences.

This was quite a powerful revelation. Every once in a while, I realize the breadth of my skills and interests, and how these interests and areas of knowledge make me a good journalist and writer.

I need to think about these things when I'm feeling down or despondent.
