I've been thinking I should read "The Pillow book", but this quote has further influenced my decision....

As will be gathered
from these notes of mine,
I am the sort of person
who approves
of what others abhor
and detests
the things they like.

—Sei Shonagon, The Pillow Book
circa 1000 AD

have you read Liza Dalby (only foreign geisha)'s book The Tale of Murasaki? it's about the woman who wrte The Tale of Gengi, and at one point she meets Sei Shonagon.

I have read that book actually. My mom bought it, and I snapped it up last year. I quite liked it. Did you know that "Tales of the Genji" was the first novel ever written? How cool is that?

That was a good influential quote. I have been wanting to read that book for a while. But it is one of the many that gets pushed back on my reading list by the newest hot young book.
