Thrifting in New Westminster

Yesterday I went out to New Westminster to do research for an article I'm writing about antique stores in the area. There's an actual row on Front Street and 6th called "Antique Alley". They've got a lot of neat collectibles, furniture, jewellery, etc. I really liked the Asian antiques they had. One store even had a sampan (Vietnamese boat??)! There weren't a lot of clothes, but there were a lot of dishes and small collectibles. I managed to pick up two cds for two dollars; the greatest hits of Bill Withers, and an Ike and Tina cd.

I do have several purchases I'd like to make when I have my own home/office. I want an antique typewriter, and a chaise longue. I also want to buy myself a kimono.

Things of note...

1. Today is World AIDS day.
2. Pierre Berton, an influential Canadian writer and broadcaster, died yesterday. He was 84 and had published 77 books(!). I have never read a Pierre Berton book. I need to change that.
3. I have to write a column about Iris Chang for the next edition of Ricepaper.
