(no subject)

Man, this underemployment/lack of full time job is getting old and boring. So if you know of any leads, please send them my way.

Hell yeah.

Some short films for a Thursday afternoon

This ad has been deemed too hot for Canadian tv Apparently we've become a bunch of puritans. (Personally, I think it's cute.)

And- Store Wars with Obi Wan Cannoli, Cuke Skywalker and Princess Lettuce. Cute and clever.

(Thanks to everyone who already posted this)

What I've been reading lately

1. What we all long for- by Dionne Brand- I didn't expect to like this book as much as I actually did. It's the story of 4 young artistic people of colour living in Toronto. It explains how their lives intersect. I won't tell you too much about the plot, but it's good. Hated the ending, though.

2. The Asian mystique- by Sheridan Prasso- Had to read this for "Ricepaper". Ms Sheridan Prasso is an American journalist who specializes in Asia. She tries to uncover "the asian mystique" by going through a history of colonialization, which describes how people have come to view Asia and Asians. She then looks at Hollywood stereotypes, and then continues by taking an anthropological tour through Asia. She interviews Japanese housewives, a former geisha, Cathay Pacific flight attendants (who apparently had a reputation that I didn't know about), Chinese Communist party members, prostitues, Japanese women who live near military bases and who try to pick up black men (called koku-jos), and a host of other women of the diaspora. I really enjoyed this book. It was eye opening and informative. Can I have Ms Prasso's job?

3. Lucky- by Eddie De Oliviera- Weird little book about a boy who is bi-sexual. It's about his mixed up feelings. Rather strange.

4. The Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy- by Douglas Adams- I want to see the movie, but I couldn't remember the book. When I picked it up, I remembered that I hadn't liked it the first time. I liked it this time though.

5. The Guide to getting it on- by Paul Joannides- This 789 page sex book is both informative, funny and thorough. It also discusses gender and sexual politics, which I was quite fascinated by. Yes, I read the whole book and plan to add it to my collection.

Currently reading- Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen.
