Other items of note

1. I made [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s pumpkin bread, which turned out to be quite yummy and made my house smell really good.

2. I watched the first three episodes of Season 1 of Lost, and I really, really like it. Need to get the other disks on DVD.

3. I watched "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". As my expectations were very low, I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the modern twists they gave to the children, and I liked Charlie and the factory in general. The look and feel was very Burtonesque, and I love Burton's macabre, twisted world. However, I found Johnny Depp's performance to be a little lacking and creepy, and the story sort of made the Wonka character unsympathetic, which I didn't like at all.

The thing is, though, Willy Wonka wasn't all that sympathetic in the book. And Roald Dahl objected to Gene Wilder's portrayal for that very reason.

Yea, I've heard the same thing. I heard that Dahl was actually very upset with Wilder's portrayal of wonka, as well as the whole movie. Dahl's son (or daughter was it?) produced the new one and, from what I've heard, is closer to what was originally intended by Dahl. Of course it's difficult for me to really know what i'm talking about considering i haven't read the book in, oh, 18 years?
