Movies seen at the Film fest
I saw two really good movies on Wednesday.
Let the right one in- I really loved this film. It was a Swedish vampire movie based on a novel. It was slow, but that didn't bother me too much. It was about a lonely 12-year-old named Oskar. Oskar is bullied by the students at his school, and has no friends. Then Eli, a 12-year-old vampire moves in next door, and they become friends. It takes a while for him to learn that she's a vampire. It's set in a snowy part of Stockholm, and the whole thing is bleak and cold. I really liked it because it was such a refreshing take on the vampire genre. It was very creative and different. Apparently there's an American remake planned, which pisses me off. :(
Rachel getting married- I really liked this film and thought it seemed very natural and normal. It has already generated Oscar buzz for Anne Hathaway's performance. The basic premise is that a former junkie, who is estranged from her family, gets out of rehab to go to her sister's wedding. There's a lot of family tension, excellent dialogue and both funny and painful moments. Very natural performances, and completely believable. It'll be interesting to see how this one does.
