Last night I was watching some Saturday Night Live, because I couldn't fall asleep. I was really disgusted to see TWO skits with domestic violence in them. One was about Tiger Woods and his mistresses. The running gag was that Elin, his wife, was beating him. The other skit was about "Gossip Girl- Staten Island". It also involved two characters hitting each other.

I was not amused by any of this, especially since Rihanna was the musical guest, and today is the anniversary of the Montreal massacre.

Fortunately, two of my friends also noticed this and mentioned it on their twitter feeds.

Every time I get a glimpse of SNL, I wonder why it's still on. Half of the shit that they do isn't funny.

I am so glad you mentioned it! I was watching last night, and Xtian came in. We talked about it too. I have really mixed feelings about SNL. Sometimes it's funny, but mostly it's too off-color for me to find funny, and dare I say it, it seems like the majority of the gags are at the expense of women. I liked the Rihanna-Shy ronnie skit, but beyond that...

But this is what's really distressing about domestic violence as displayed in popular culture nowadays. If a woman is the abuser, or if a woman does it back, it's seen as OK. It's absolute bullshit.

Whaa-whaat?? On Paula Deen? How did this become crossover?

SNL i think is just habit programming at this point, like the Simpsons. They're not worthwhile anymore but the networks don't know how to go about getting rid of them. Which is a shame because the frat boy humor just doesn't hit the mark, to say the least.
