I don't want to be awake yet....
Jun. 12th, 2003 09:27 amWoke up far too early this morning. I still want to be sleeping, but it's not happening.
Anyway, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] just wrote that it's been 10 years since she graduated from high school.
Next year will be 10 years for me.
I just remembered that some friends and I were making predictions for what our lives would be like for our high school reunion.
My friends predicted that:
I would be a journalist, who would have travelled to many countries. I'd have a small shrapnel wound from covering a major conflict and a handsome boyfriend who was dark and had great hair. We would have some children that we would have adopted from various Asian countries.
Isn't that a weird prediction? It just surprises me, because I am actually a journalist (and I wasn't planning to be a journalist when I was in high school) and I've done some travelling.
How strange!

This is what happens at a Mongolian disco
Jun. 12th, 2003 09:50 amAnyway, Mongolian discos are interesting. They are apparently all the same. We went to one called "Tornado". There were a lot of Russians there.
Anyway, they play Mongolian, English and Russian songs. Men dance with men, which I've never seen before. There is a lot of "circle dancing" and people you don't know will come dance with you. Of course, you can drink mostly beer and vodka.
Last night Kate G and I observed that Mongolian vodka sometimes tastes like rubbing alcohol, but good rubbing alcohol.
At about 1, the stripper comes out. They clear the dance floor and she strips and dances around for one number. Then everyone goes back on the dance floor.
After this, there may be another stripper. In this case, there were 2 jugglers. The discos stay open until about 4 or 5.
There was a lot of make-out drama last night, which was cool.

You are William Miller! You are the young genius of
the movie. In love with everything about the
rock star lifestyle, you are in heaven on the
road. You never quite fit in anywhere else, but
with Penny you found a safe haven. Hold onto
your dreams man, they'll take you a long way.
Which Almost Famous character are you?
brought to you by Quizilla
I would say this is true, since I really relate to this character. I'm obsessed with writing, music and I'm a journalist. On, and I do like being on the road with musicians, but I don't like to carry the gear. I just like to sit in the bar and watch them set up and read and drink coffee and talk to people.
However, in my experiences with musicians, I must say that they mostly come in two forms. They are either anal, or they are crazy. A well balanced musician is "a golden god."

Some lj call outs
Jun. 12th, 2003 04:38 pm[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], you made my day. I never would have dreamed that there is an actual Klickitat street in Portland. (If you're wondering what that is familiar, that is the name of Ramona's street in the "Ramona" books by Beverley Cleary.)
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] I'd really like to write a piece about Mongolia for Guava, but I'm stumped. Mongolia is not an easy country to get around, but it's definitely a cool place to visit. You basically have to hire a guide, and driver to get to sites, or go with a tour. I'm not sure if this would fit Guava readers, as it's a bit expensive. On the other hand, Mongolia is definitely a good country for women to travel in. It's cheap and harassment is almost non-existent. It's very safe too.
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]- Remembered yesterday that I wrote a piece about the menstrual taboo and how society perpetuates a negative view of menstruation. I wrote this paper for 1st year university. I can dig it up and send it to you if you're interested when I get back home.
Thanks all. I'm definitely a little brain dead today.

The Nanny diaries and a cross over idea
Jun. 12th, 2003 06:31 pmSo I gave up on "Emma". I've realized I don't like Jane Austen, and that's okay.
I'm reading "The Nanny Diaries" and it's pretty good. At first I thought it was dumb, but then I got caught up in it. I would hate to meet anyone like Mrs. X, though. I could imagine her as a character on "Sex and the City". The 4 women would be appalled by her.
Last year, I was explaining my crossover idea to my best friend. I would totally watch an episode of "Sex and the City" crossed with "Queer as Folk."
( if you don't like either show, this won't make sense )
Yes, my brain likes to waste time. My mom doesn't understand why I like QAF. I need to tell her about slash.

And I was somewhat impressed that I still know all the words to the songs on the black album.
