BIG FAT WORD.

In all my excitement, I forgot to mention my awesome dream. I dreamed that Kristen Bell and I were friends and we were hanging out in my elementary school gym and I was asking her what it was like to make out with Jason Dohring.

I'm shitty at goodbyes, so I'll just say, "See you later, Vancouver." I'm sad to leave and it's going to be hard, but it's going to be manageable, because I'll have a really cool job in my field. I have marked this departure by subsisting on salmon and Japanese food for the past week to stock up internally before I return to the land of Alberta beef. (Shudder)

The movers came yesterday and moved my stuff in just under an hour. I used Two small men with big hearts and so far, I'd really recommend them. They've been professional and efficient and friendly. We'll see if I can continue the recommendation when I meet up with them in Grande Prairie. I definitely hope so.

I went to see "Babel" yesterday and ran into an old classmate from journalism school at the movie theatre. He just moved here two months ago and is working for Global TV. It was damn cool to see him. I've finished up a bunch of last minute errands and cleaning and I'm ready to go. I've got a bus ride of over 20 hours ahead of me. (Ick.)

My packing for this move was punctuated by episodes of Grey's Anatomy, which I now love with an unabashed passion. I love the way that race is handled on the show, that people are allowed to be in interracial relationships and that the hospital is multicultural. I have also discovered that I am fascinated by medical terminology. I used to think I hated medicine, but I find that after each show, I usually end up googling the plague du jour and reading about it on the Internet. I think it's partly because of my lifelong fascination with biology and anatomy and partly because of my love for big words. Encephalitis? Cardio thoracic? Medical fascinoma? Vasoconstriction? God, I'm getting hot just typing these words.

Here's a promo for the show before it first aired. This video was choreographed by David LaChapelle but was never shown in North America because it was thought to be too odd for American audiences. (It did run in Britain, though)

As you can probably guess, I love it.

Hanson was kind enough to lend me "Lost" and I'm slowly making my way through it. I think I'm on episode 8. I finally learned last night that I should not watch "Lost" during the later part of the evenings, unless I want to have really wacky dreams. One of my problems is that if I watch something on t.v. that is mysterious, I try to solve the mystery in my sleep. This ability makes me a decent writer, and a very shitty sleeper.
***

One of my roommates rarely watches t.v. Our cable went out a while ago and the two roommates were bored, so they popped the first episode of "Lost" into the DVD player. They are both hooked on the show and now the roommate who is not normally a t.v. watcher has stayed up until 2 a.m. watching "Lost" on two separate occasions and has already asked if the second season is available :)

I actually stole this link from [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], but it's so good that I must post it here.

Behold the Firefly Barbies!

(Really, fricking cool)

So we finally watched "Serenity" this weekend. Thank you to everyone who told us to watch "Firefly" first, and thank you to [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] for enabling us and promoting fannish type behaviour.

more spoilers and stuff- not in great detail and not very heavy )

Joss is currently set to write and direct "Wonder woman" and depending on who they get to play "Wonder woman", I'm pretty sure that my ass will be in a movie seat when that hits the theatres.

[Poll #687864]

My favourite characters are Zoe, followed by Jayne and Inara, and then possibly Kaylee. I despise River.
blue_lotus13: (feldmanrule)
The dude and I have been slowly watching "Firefly". We only have two episodes left before we get to see the movie! In honour of our slow endeavour, I present to you this "Firefly poll".

[Poll #687750]

Also, wise Internet friends, what is the name of the Angel episode where all the characters become puppets? What is the episode number? (I'd like to see it and need to know to rent the DVD.)

I finally finished watching the first season of Veronica Mars. Holy fucking shit!! The last two episodes were killer (no pun intended) and the whole season was pretty darn great. It took me a while to get on the Veronica Mars bandwagon, and as you can tell, I'm still a bit behind. I started watching when the eps started airing on CTV and then ended up missing some of the final eps as my VCR (or the VCR's owner) fucked up while I was in New York, and didn't record them. I waited patiently for the DVDs. I was going to rent them from Zip, but then I learned that [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] owned them, and he became my enabler. THANK YOU!!!! Because of CTV's wacky schedule, I had missed several really good eps including "Clash of the Tritons", and "An Echolls Family Christmas." I had also missed the pilot, but had caught up on it by reading the recaps at TWOP. In retrospect, I was glad that the pilot wasn't the first ep that I saw, because it was too filled with back-story and probably wouldn't have held my attention. I liked the first few eps I saw, but I was truly a fan by the time I watched Episode 5 because of the plot twist that I did not see coming.

Other notes- great characters and acting overall, slick writing, great plot twists, dialogue and storylines, and a wonderful use of suspense.

I also love the multi-ethnic cast, Veronica's closeness with her father, how things are never black and white and the various age groups that appear in the show. Sometimes I miss details in the episodes, and find that I have to re-watch scenes, or go to TWOP to find things out. That's just me though, and not a problem with the show.

My complaints are few. Initially, I had problems telling Logan and Duncan apart, but this changed after a few episodes. I also feel that sometimes the characters look far too old to be high school students. They are better cast than some (hello 90210!), but it still bothers me. Sometimes I also feel that Veronica is a bit too perfect. I enjoy watching episodes where she screws up, as this makes the character more real to me. I think that she's fairly nuanced, and I'm pretty happy with her character in general.

My other complaint is that mid-way through the season, I started finding Jason Dohring ridiculously attractive, even though I really didn't want to.

more about Logan and MAJOR spoilers for SEASON 1 under the cut )

I'm looking forward to watching the second season on CTV, or on DVD, because it's too late to start watching now. Oh, and can anyone help me find an icon community for Veronica Mars icons? Thank you.

This woman has admitted what a few of us already know- Daniel Radcliffe is going to be hot! She presents compelling evidence, complete with a pictorial history of Dan's ascent to puberty.

She's even created a Harry Potter legal age countdown clock

This is for my dear fellow Degrassi watchers.

James St. James is going to be on America's Next Top Model. I so have to tape it. For some reason, I love James St. James so I'll be watching even though I'm not a regular watcher of the show.

So my computer is screwed and is going to cost $140 to repair. It's at the shop right now. A little rod on the side is broken and has been cutting into the power supply. This little rod is super expensive, but I'm replacing it anyway. I need my computer.

I didn't feel well yesterday and spent the whole day on the couch watching "Constantine", which was pretty good for what it was, an episode of Veronica Mars, and "Mean Girls".

Did anyone else notice that there wasn't an Asian character on the show until the episode after 'Betty and Veronica" in which Hamilton Cho appeared? I really like that the show has representation from all ethnic groups, but thought was kinda strange. Aren't there a lot of Asians in California?

In other news, we are going to Boston today for the wedding of Albert and Richard , also known as "My Big Fat Gay Chinese Italian Canadian American" wedding. I am super excited!! Hopefully you can expect some posts from the MIT hotel.

I've been trying to load the Brokeback mountain trailer on my computer this morning and it's just not working. I want my gay cowboys!
But if you can load it up, it's all yours.

ETA- Could someone throw me the direct link, so I could post it.

Thanks.

ETA- Here's the link . It finally worked when I loaded into the Windows Media Player.

Yay!

Okay, I only know two other Degrassi watchers, but

Finished watching Season 1 )

After more tooling around the Internet, I have solved my own problem. Zip.ca has Season 1 and 2 available for rental. It's probably not a bad idea to sign up for the Zip service, since I might need it during the Oscar project. So far I haven't had any trouble finding any of the titles I need, but as I near the final 17, it might get a bit more difficult.

While searching the Internet for Degrassi, I also found these fine items. . The book of essays about Degrassi and youth identity looks like something I would love.

In case you haven't noticed, yes, I'm incredibly dorky. And I can't really explain my fascination with teen culture, it just is what it is.
blue_lotus13: (Default)
After tooling around the Internet, I am seriously craving more Degrassi. So if anyone is ever in a video store in Vancouver and sees the seasons available for rental on DVD, please let me know. I can't find them in my area, but I haven't looked that hard yet.

I'm feeling nasty today. For some reason, I couldn't fall asleep and only slept for about 4 hours. So now I have a headache and I'm exhausted. My eye is swelling up again, so I guess I'm reacting to something.

However, while flipping through channels, I managed to catch the Degrassi "School's Out" movie, and hear the immortal line, "You were fucking Tessa Campanelli!" That line made a list of greatest moments in Canadian television. I never realized that there was so much Gowan playing during that little movie. Tessa and Joey first get it on to "Moonlight Desires." I was also fascinated by Yick Yu's long hair, and Spike's badly coloured eyebrows.

Last night I watched "Super Size Me". I thought it was absolutely brilliant and really enjoyed the film. I think the message was quite clear and it probably inspired a lot of people to think about the fast food industry. It was actually somewhat painful to watch, as filmmaker Morgan Spurlock does look pretty darn sick and gross at the end of the movie.

I highly recommend watching the special features on the DVD. I watched some of the interviews, and some of the scenes with commentary. Included on the DVD is a little experiment where Morgan attempts to let McFood rot by leaving various burgers and fries in jars. After two and a half months, the fries look exactly the same.

I have several questions for people in Canada-
1. Do schools in Canada have lunch programs? Are there any as subsidized as the ones in the film?
2. I don't recall ever seeing the Super Size items available in Canada. As far as I can recall, the Canadian Super Size was the American large. Or at least, that's what it looked like to me.

some McMemories, mostly about working there in high school )
