People do that enough at conventions, I think there should be a category of art called Barbie or Action Figure Diorama. I've seen lots and lots of Barbies as Xena and Gabrielle, Seven of Nine, Xev, and other prominent female SF/Fantasy figures (ha! I said 'figures').

I saw a website not too long ago where the artist did replica costumes and characters from Doctor Who and did them scarily well. It's an interesting hobby.
