Mar. 14th, 2004 10:25 amI'm feeling a little more upbeat today. Yesterday I wrote and sent off an article about how to survive isolation while overseas. I had coffee with my friend Ramona, then volunteered at the women's festival. I took tickets for three shows.
The first show was the Cockrum sisters. They were 4 sisters from a family of 12 who sang some contemporary songs they'd written, covers of Irish songs and a song by Melanie Doane. I actually enjoyed their harmonies more than I thought I would.
The second show was Cuppa-Joe, performed by Jolene Baillie, a modern dancer from Winnipeg. It was amazing stuff if you like modern, which I do. She had amazing physical strength and dexterity and her work was intense.
The third was Cat Jahnke, a folk singer from Winnipeg. She had a nice voice, but her songs were all "sad ex-boyfriend songs" and they got a little tedious after a while. (That's her description, not mine) Still, a rather pleasant evening.
