So little time, so much blogging to do.
On the weekend, Dad and I watched
"Dirty Pretty Things". What an amazing film! Well written, well acted and just generally thought provoking. It's a hard movie to watch, because it's heavy and disturbing. I won't reveal anything about the plot, but it's about illegal immigrants working in a hotel. I liked Audrey Tatou in "Amelie" and "L'auberge espagnole", but in my ever so humble opinion, she revealed her acting chops in this movie, as did the lead. Even more disturbing than the movie itself is the thought that things like this happen all around the world.
Dad and I also watched half of
"Comandante" which is a documentary that Oliver Stone made about Fidel Castro. Castro agreed to let Stone follow him around and interview him for 30 hours. If at any point Castro wanted and gave the order to cut, Stone would oblidge. Castro never gave that order. The film was quite interesting. Castro comes off as an incredibly intelligent and sharp man. He has opinions on everything. The film was done in a classic Stone fashion, with lots of news reel shots, and close-ups of Castro's hands. We only watched half of the film because we both started falling asleep as it was very late. I hope to rent it sometime, or see it again (It was on tv). I find Castro to be an incredibly interesting figure.
( when I saw Fidel Castro )By sheer coincidence, Castro and I share the same birthday, August 13. Alfred Hitchcock was born on this date as well.
