Harry Potter party
Jul. 16th, 2005 07:39 pmOur Harry Potter party at the store rocked!! We started getting things ready at about 7:00. I got to work in my costume before the party, which was a lot of fun. I was dressed as Professor Sprout, so I had an upside down flowerpot on my head, and a cape with flowers on it. I kept on getting strange looks before the party.
At about 9:00, we started. We were worried that no children would come, but we did have several hundred people. We had potions class where kids mixed up concoctions, a wand making table, a colouring contest and a gummy worm guessing contest. We also had psychics, fortune tellers and a bouncy tiger. Lots of people came in costume and the majority of the staff dressed up. One woman came as a merperson, there were lots of wizards and students, and one person came dressed in an excellent Hagrid costume. One of the staff members painted herself gold and came as the Golden Snitch.
The kids at the party were a blast. One saw me when they were coming into the store and yelled, "Look, there's one."
Another one wanted a staff member, Brad, to pretend to fly on a broom. When Brad did, the kid said, "That's not a real broom! You're not really flying!"
One of our staff members was wearing a bowler hat and a scarf. He said that he was the unknown uncle "Larry Potter." One of the children yelled, "You're lying there's no Larry Potter. That's wrong." They were quite funny. Lots of kids asked me to pose for pictures with them.
The lines for people to buy and the prepaid orders started around 11:00. We seriously had several hundred people in the store and they snaked around the aisles. I lost my voice telling people where to stand. We started selling at 12:01, and shut down the store at about 1:15. I was done work at around 2:00. It was a total blast, but I'm exhausted today. And I haven't even bought the book yet.
