I'm working in the Videotech, which means I get to hang out with filmmakers, jurors and distributors who come to view the movies on DVD because they can't manage to get to a screening of the film. I can watch bits and pieces over their shoulders when they are watching films, and when it's slow, I can turn on a DVD player and fire up films of my choosing.

1. Zen life- DT Suzuki- As a Buddhist, how could I miss this film? It's a documentary about the life of Daisetz Tetsuro Suzuki. It featured interviews with Gary Snyder (who I love) and Robert Aitken (who I also love). I did learn a lot about the transmission of Buddhism to the West, but I did feel that this film was a little too long. It was about 86 minutes and should have been cut to about 60 or 50 minutes. I'd only recommend this one if you're really interested in the topic. If you're not, you'll probably be bored.

2. The Mao Years- This was an hour long documentary about French revolutionaries and their love for Maoism. It was an interesting depiction of French life and leftist social movements in the late 1960s. I was interested to see how fascinated the French intellectuals were by China and what was happening there. Again, I'd only recommend this one if you were interested in the subject matter or if you happen to be [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s uncle.
