Interesting stuff of the day

1. The Canada Day parade goes right by my house, so I will be able to step outside and catch some candy.
2. This week I am working on a story about suntanning and skin damage. Yesterday I went to have an infrared photo of my face taken at a sun clinic. The photo shows all the sun damage I've done to my face, which is minimal. Yay!
3. I am almost done my online class and will be finished with the whole thing on June 30th. Yay!
4. I'm thanked in the newest edition of "Lonely Planet Mongolia." Long-time readers may remember that I wrote Lonely Planet complaining about the last edition of their book. Apparently I had some impact because they thanked me in the newest edition. I learned about this when I searched my name on Amazon.com.

She's gone country...

I wear jeans a lot to work, just because I often have to drive out to a farm, and if you're going to be on a farm, you want to be wearing jeans and good boots.
Today I wore a skirt and was complimented 4 times on how I looked. It was nice to feel more girly. That's one thing I sort of miss at my job. I guess I can wear some of my summer skirts on the days that I don't have to go out to a farm.

Speaking of country style, I'm listening to the Dixie Chicks "Take the long way" and I'm really surprised by how much I relate to the lyrics on the album. I think they're singing about some pretty personal things on the album, and I guess I'm drawn to that.

Angelina responds to blackface casting

I've been fascinated by the casting of Angelina Jolie in "A Mighty Heart." I was disturbed that Angelina's skin is turned a different colour, and that she wears brown contacts and a weave in the film. If they wanted to cast someone as Marianne, they could have chosen a black actress or a mixed actress like Halle Berry.

However, in the article I linked to above, apparently Marianne has a definite ethnic mix. In another article that I read, Marianne Pearl specifically wanted to cast Angelina after meeting her, because she felt she had the talent and an understanding of the role.

So now I'm rather conflicted in my feelings. I think this will probably be a rental for me.
