Nov. 14th, 2007 07:44 amI've had a couple of writing projects on the brain, and have started the initial research for one of them. It's a non-fiction project which takes place mainly in Alberta and British Columbia.
I decided to see if this particular project would be worthy of an Alberta Creative Development Initiative grant by contacting the program officer. He told me that the possibility of me receiving a grant for this project was unlikely, as it was non-fiction and not completely "literary".
I'm still going to work on this project, but feel a bit like I've been kicked in the teeth and am back to square one. I feel kind of down about it, if you want to know the truth.
****
In addition to all this, I'm sick AGAIN. My throat started to tickle yesterday so I cancelled my visit to see my friends' newborn. It's a good thing I did. I woke up this morning with a full out cold.
****
I'm not sure why I decided to rent it but I watched "The Freedom Writers" last night and sort of loved it. I really, really liked it, even though it was rather predictable. I guess it hit on a lot of things that inspire me; writing, making a difference in peoples' lives, the power of learning, and literature, helping teens find their voice, working against racism, and triumph over adversity and oppression. I actually ended up liking Hilary Swank, and the kids in the film did a really good job and were believable. I'm going to read the book now.
