I caught you a delicious trout
May. 12th, 2008 08:08 pmToday I visited a trout farm. I had to drive 2.5 hours to get there, which wasn't bad since the weather was lovely. I cranked up my radio and just coasted there, admiring the scenery.
The couple who own the farm have been running it for 10 years. They bring their fish up from Edmonton in tanks in a big truck, and then people come and buy the fish, which they raise in their dug out in cages. Fish are transported using bags if there are less than 300, and in tanks if customers buy more than 300.
Mr. Otto and I went out to the dug out and he threw trout pellets on the water, and the fingerlings went crazy and the water was literally bubbling away as the fish jumped. I have never seen anything like it.
His wife was in town, but she soon joined us. We got to talking about my trip to the Philippines and how the women always tried to fix me up with their sons. She pointed to her son's picture and said, "We got one, but he's too old for you."
I told her I was 31, and then the sale started. The couple told me how their son had a quarter section of land, two quads (which meant I could drive one) and was a welder. They went right into the hard sell. After that, we fished in their private pond. I didn't catch anything, but they gave me three trout that they had in the freezer for me to take home.
