On Sunday, I went for brunch and then [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and I went wandering around Chinatown in the rain. I noticed a version of the dragon dance that I'd never seen before. I have loved the dragon dance ever since I first saw it as a child. In this particular version, the dragon parades up and down the street. Shop owners hang a bunch of lettuce (called "pai") in front of their stores. The dragon reaches up and "eats" the lettuce. Upon finishing the lettuce, the dragon spits it back out and then sets off firecrackers. This is supposed to bring luck.
(I only know about this because of [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s mad Google skillz.)
Later on that day, we walked through a cloud of pepper spray at Granville Sky train station. I've never experienced pepper spray before and hope not to experience it again in the near future. It burned my eyes and throat and I coughed so hard that I was almost sick.
