Last night I made many Oscar quips, but there was only one other person to listen to me. I want to go to or have an Oscar party next year, me thinks.
1. I thought this was one of the better Oscar ceremonies that I've seen in recent years. It was interesting, the dresses were nice and tasteful and I liked Jon Stewart as the host. I also liked it because I thought this was a good year for movies, and I ennjoyed most of the films that were selected. We didn't have to deal with Blah, blah, blah Rings (I liked it, but it made for some boring awards shows) or the paltry selection of films that was out last year.
2. Jessica Alba, I disliked your up-do. And Eric Bana, why did you have to cut off your curls?
3. Dame Judi Dench was the only one not looking at the camera when the best actress nom was being announced.
4. For some reason, I thought Jack Nicholson was sitting next to Winona Ryder. Then I recognized Keira Knightley.
5. Production numbers do not need to involve burning cars.
6. I really don't like the trend of showing the other black people in the audience every time a black person wins an award. It seems trite and contrived. I waited for them to show all the Asians in the audience when Ang Lee won, but I don't think that happened.
7.I personally loved the montages, as I try frantically to identify and yell out the names to every film clip. Yep, I am a dork.
8. I need to see more film noir.
9. How come they never show the actual writer who writes the novel on which the screenplay is based? Don't they deserve any credit?
10. I loved Larry McMurtry's speech acknowledging booksellers, writers and "the culture of the book."
11. Lauren Bacall looked pretty rough and her slurring and shaking made me sad. On the other hand, I didn't know that she was still alive until she took the stage.
12. My mother remarked that Michelle Williams has become a serious actress with a nice partner and an Oscar nom, while Katie Holmes is pregnant by Crazy Man.
13. I am very happy that Crazy Man and his film did not win a single award.
14. Ang Lee dedicated a movie about two gay cowboys to his dad. Does anyone else think this is strange?
15. I like it when people cry and get emotional during their speeches.
16. During the ceremony I yelled, "I can't believe a pimp beat Dolly Parton!"
(I think the Academy mainly went with "safe" choices, but to be honest, I wasn't really extremely unhappy with anything.
