I'm watching the Inauguration and trying to do a bit of work. I went to belly dance class last night and am actually quite sore from that. I've been a bit of an exercise freak lately, but it's good. My body feels better, and I can actually fall asleep. Let's see if I can keep it up. Expect a lot of movie talk for the next few posts as I've got a lot to go through.
My first thought about this movie was that it was very, very long. It had a fairytale quality that I enjoyed, but I did feel that it dragged at parts. At one point, I actually thought that it was a fairly stupid movie, but a few moments later, I noticed that my eyes were welling up. It did remind me of "The Time Traveller's wife", and I think it had more in common with that film than "Forrest Gump." Of course, a person couldn't really talk about this movie without mentioning the amazing special effects. If this one doesn't get nominated for make up and digital effects, I will be very, very surprised. I also loved that Cate Blanchett's character was a dancer. As a dance fan, that added another element for me. This story could be viewed on a merely superficial level, but if you look more closely, it's actually a story about loving, friendship, compromise, loss and aging. I don't think it was perfect, and I don't want it win Best picture, but it does have its merits.
