Jun. 22nd, 2003 09:40 pmI am so fricking tired. I just walked to the convenience store in my pyjamas, since I was too lazy to change. But my tiredness is the good tiredness that comes from hiking.
We left yesterday at about 11 a.m. There were about 15 of us on the bus and we went on to Terelj. I finally met Dorothy, the intern at the US embassy. She is really awesome. She spent some time studying in China, so she had a lot to tell me about that.
We got to Terelj, and went hiking around. It was amazingly gorgeous. We hiked up to this rock that looks like a huge turtle.
The entire weekend was spent laughing and joking. A lot of people also got really drunk, but I didn't take part in that aspect of the weekend.
We did make numerous jokes about Mongolian condoms. The Mongolian condom brand is "Trust." Therefore, we created some interesting slogans such as "Trust me", "Thrust with Trust." and "Trust, it won't bust."
Supper last night consisted of half a sheep which was cooked in a pit with stones. It's a popular method for cooking sheep.
One of the interesting characters on the hike was a man named Mr. Yamata. He is a 73 year old Japanese man, and is one of the densest, most dirty old men I've ever met. He is obsessed with this German woman, Brigitte. On a recent hike, she started falling and Yamata "helped" her by grabbing her ass and trying to stop her from sliding down the hill. He kept trying to do this again.
At one point, he asked Dorothy and I what kind of age difference was acceptable in marriages, and told us that 22 was a good age for marriage. Then he asked Dorothy how old her grandma was.
Later on, we got into some conversation (probably about something sexual) and Yamata told us all that he "practiced 2 times a week for health, with his Mongolian girlfriend." Okay?!?!
Everyone stayed up late last night. Today we woke up and hiked up a huge mountain before lunch. Then after lunch, some people went back to town, and others went horseback riding. A Belgian guy, Ingrid's Mongolian friend Aggie, and I hiked up to a place where they were building a new monastery, and we looked at all the carvings and construction. Very cool. So all in all, a fun weekend, but I'm tired now. I have an attractive racoon tan from wearing my sunglasses.
