Jun. 4th, 2004 03:13 pmHey, I'm in Slave Lake for the day on a break from planting. Life is good. I've had a lot of adventures. We got rained in for a couple of days, and our whole camp became a huge mud puddle. It was incredibly disgusting. My tent didn't leak, but the dampness came through the floor and everything was cold and incredibly damp. I'm becoming much better at planting. I'm now making about $80 a day, and will soon be up to $100 as I get better and faster.
I currently have a bad sunburn, which I acquired while planting yesterday. Other than that, I have no other injuries, other than some blisters, scratches, scrapes and bruises. I've been having a good time hanging out with the people in camp, and I'm getting much better at planting. I've seen some wildlife- deer, frogs, birds and a bear. The bear was about 50 feet away, and was scared of us, which was cool. Yesterday I took my first ride in a helicopter. It was pretty intense and scary, because the machine is noisy and powerful, and you have to be very careful when exiting and entering. However, the view was amazing. We should be done planting in Slave Lake soon, and will be heading to the mountains in Kananaskis. I'm really glad I chose to go planting; I'm really enjoying the experience, except for the days when I'm cold, wet and tired and I miss my home.
