Most romantic song?
Dec. 17th, 2004 02:20 pmRolling Stone magazine's recent issue has a comprehensive list of what they (I'm not sure who judged this), consider to be the 500 greatest songs of all time. Their top pick is Bob Dylan's "Like a rolling stone." I personally think this is a little ego-stroking, considering the name of the magazine. Second choice is "I can't get no satisfaction" by the Stones (again, with the ego-stroking). The third song is John Lennon's "Imagine." Personally, if I was going with these three, this would be my number 1. Songs that also fell near the top of the list are the Who's "My generation", Marvin Gaye's "What's going on", and "Purple Haze" by Jimi Hendrix. This reminded me of a post I've wanted to do for a while about "romantic songs."
A few months ago, my dad, who is a fan of jazz and blues, and I had a discussion about how jazz standards are often the most romantic.
Here (in no particular order), are a list of some of my favourite romantic songs-
1. "In your eyes" by Peter Gabriel- A beautiful song, popularized by it's use in the movie "Say Anything."
2. "Come rain or come shine" sung Frank Sinatra, about love throughout the ages.
3. "They can't take that away from me"- jazz standard, about the loved one's individuality
4. "All I want is you" by U2- a yearning, sad ballad about love, included in the movie "Reality Bites"
5. "Let's stay together"- I know it was originally sung by Al Green, but I love the Tina Turner version too.
6. Baby, can I hold you by Tracy Chapman
7. "Righteously" by Lucinda Williams (okay, this is really more of a sexy song, but it's still pretty hot)
8. Is this love by Bob Marley
9. Woman by John Lennon- This is a song he wrote as an apology to Yoko after he hurt her. If I'm in the right mood (aka premenstrual), this song makes me bawl.
