Dec. 28th, 2004 12:10 pmSo my computer is in the shop, and I'm at the Ricepaper office again. This time, there are a team of proofreaders behind me, waiting for direction, which I'm not giving, because I'm waiting for someone else to do it. Anyway, after my computer died, I did what any normal person did and seethed. Then I decided that it was stupid to waste a beautiful day, so I went for a walk to Chinatown. I wandered around and found a new favourite restaurant for people watching, the "New Town Bakery". This restaurant is like a 1950s small town cafe, populated by Chinese people. The waitresses all wear these really strange looking vests, and the counters and decor look very 1950s. They make awesome buns and dumplings. I think it's a new favourite joint for me.
After this, I wandered around Chinatown, and Gastown. This was my first visit to Gastown. I saw a variety of interesting shops including the burlesque store Sweet Soul . I then went back to Commercial Drive, where I went to see "A series of unfortunate events." I was pleasantly surprised!! The set decor and costume design were bang on, and all the actors were well cast, even the twins who played Sunny. I was quite happy that the directors managed to keep the flavour of the books. All in all, a success!!
