Yo- Adrian! Oscar project- "Rocky"
Apr. 18th, 2005 07:49 pm Rocky won the best picture in 1976. It's the story of an average Joe who decides to box against a champion. It was a bit cheesy, but wasn't half bad. At the beginning, I found the Rocky character somewhat annoying, but then he started to grow on me as he developed his relationship with Adrian. I liked their relationship and appreciated that this tough character had all these pets, including the dog, and the turtles. (I also noticed that Rocky never washed his hands after touching the turtles, which was weird. Apparently he's not aware of the danger of salmonella.)
I appreciated the film more after I watched Stallone's commentary on the DVD. This is a film about taking chances and the Rocky/Adrian relationship is at the crux of the film. One of my old friends said that this movie changed his life, even though it was cheesy. It made him see that it was all right to believe in himself. Remembering how this film affected my friend Rob made me appreciate it despite its cheesiness.
My favourite line in this film is how Rocky describes his relationship with Adrian- "I fill her gaps, she fills my gaps."
I definitely see how this film has spawned many a copy-cat.
