Spoken word fiesta
Jun. 2nd, 2005 09:55 amOn Tuesday night, I went to a cd release for the Spoken Word Group T.O.F.U (Tons of Fun University). I went a little late, as I was warmly ensconced in my bed, finishing "Small island" by Andrea Levy. As a result, I had to wait outside Cafe Deux Soleils for about half an hour before the door people would let me in. One of the poets, Mike McGee felt bad for us, and came outside and performed a poem for us while we were waiting, which was extremely nice.
The wait was worth it. Local slam poets Shane Koyczan and CR Avery put on a great show. They were joined by Seattle resident Christa Bell and Mike McGee from the Bay area. It turns out that Mike McGee is actually [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], who is good friends with [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com].
I also got to meet [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], who I recognized from her pictures. So all in all, a good night. I plan to check out more spoken word when I get a chance.
