I'm back from Victoria. I got to hang out with my relatives and my aunt and uncle's dogs, who I love to bits!! I took the ferry over on Tuesday, and then my aunt and mother and I went to pre-order Chinese food for 11 people for the next evening.

On Wednesday, we walked around downtown, and then went out for my brother's graduation dinner, which we held at the Jade Fountain restaurant (Highly recommended).

On Thursday, Dad, Mom and I went to see "Everest" at the Imax Theatre, and then wandered through the Royal BC museum. I particularly wanted to see the Tibet exhibit, which was small, but well worth it.

Now I'm back in Vancouver and about to head to work.

Tons of non-fiction and lots of magazines (Jasmine, Maisonneuve etc)

1. In defense of elitism by WIlliam Henry- Run, run from this book. I only read it for book club. It's basically a book about why people should be snobby. The dude is sort of racist and sexist. This book only served to make me angry, which should make for good book club discussion.

2. The Good Women of China- by Xin Ran- Xin Ran was a broadcaster in China during the Communist period. She ran a series of shows about women's issues. This book is a collection of true stories she heard. It's pretty depressing. Basically, it sucked ass to be a woman in China. Horrible things happened. Ick.

3. The meaning of Wife by Anne Kingston- This book was absolutely amazing. It's an in-depth look at the mythology and cultural importance of wives. It imagines ideas about brides and weddings, the image of the wife through history, domestic abuse, divorce, Sex and the City and other such things. It was a really good read. Highly, highly recommended. In fact, I stayed up late reading it. I think many of you would enjoy it.

4. "The Island Walkers" by John Bemrose- a first novel by a Canadian author which was nominated for the Giller. It's the story of a family living in a small town in Ontario, and the downfall and destruction of the family. Good story, very detailed and dense prose, and extremely Canadian in tone and sentiment.
