Teach in order to learn...
Oct. 6th, 2005 01:29 pmIt's time I came clean about job #4. I am helping run some writing workshops at the Purple Thistle Centre. The Purple Thistle is a drop in centre for youth, where they can get involved in community projects, build things, sew, create zines and write or work in the photography lab. My friend Nadia teaches art there. At the last Colouring BOok potluck, she had to leave to go to the Purple Thistle to teach. I said, "Oh, I'm envious, that's really cool."
She said, "Hey, they're looking for a writing person. You could do that!"
She gave me some phone numbers, and by the next day, the writing coordinator had contacted me. Last night I went to chill out, and check out the space and the people. We ended up doing a writing exercise and then just talked for a while.
So I will be teaching some aspects of writing, and will probably lead a course on how to interview.
(I would do it for free, but they offered to pay me a stipend, which makes it even more worthwhile.)
