Dec. 5th, 2005 10:00 pmI had a lovely Saturday. I went to yoga and then book club. Then B* and I went for sushi with [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and his lady friend, and had enjoyable conversation.
After this, B* and I watched an old "Outer Limits" episode from 1964 called "Demon with a glass hand". This episode was supposed to be one of the better ones, and was written by Harlan Ellison. It was also the inspiration for "The Terminator" movie. In the main plot, a man is sent back from the future to kill the evil Kyben. The only thing that reveals info to it is his glass hand, which talks to him like a computer. The evil Kyben have black makeup around their faces, and wear pantyhose on their heads. As you can tell, they are the epitomy of evil.
The storyline has some good moments, but we found a lot of the episode to be laughable. After this, we watched the pilot of "Firefly", since [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] was generous enough to be our enabler.
I had a hard time getting into it, but once I was introduced to the characters, I liked it a lot more. It's no "Buffy", but I think I will watch all of the episodes. I love the aesthetics, and of course the Whedonesque dialogue and world building. It took me about 20 minutes to accept Nathan Fillion as Mal Reynolds instead of Evil demon preacher Caleb.
I'm not sure who my favourite character is, but it may just be Zoey.
