Dec. 15th, 2007 07:15 pmI just came back from seeing "Lars and the Real Girl", which is one of the most creative and touching movies that I've seen in a theatre this year. Some of the trailers make it look like it's a sheer comedy about a man who falls in love with a blow up doll and pretends it's real. That's deceptive. This film does have some comedy, but it's actually a sadder and deeper examination of love, loneliness and people's need for connection and community.
I just found out that Ryan Gosling was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance, an honour that I feel is quite well deserved. I also loved that this movie is shot in northern Ontario and has a definite "Canadian" feel to it.
Has anyone seen this movie?
