Looking young....
Aug. 25th, 2008 10:04 amIn recent years, it has come to my attention that I look younger than I actually am. I'm not sure what gives people the impression that I am in my mid-20s, but that's the general impression that people seem to get. This doesn't really bother me or make me question myself, but I have noticed that it has resulted in some bizarre interactions.
People seem shocked when I tell them I'm 32 instead of 25. People who have children about my age generally say, "Oh you wouldn't know them etc, they're older than you," and are then shocked when I tell them how old I am.
Sometimes people are floored, and then they have a hard time getting past it and listening to me when I'm trying to talk to them. (This usually happens with younger people, or people in their 20s)
I've also noticed that sometimes guys who are in their early 20s try to flirt with me in ways that are not particularly suave. When this happens, I tend to let them know how old I am, or try to tell them about some of my life experiences, so they get the picture.
I think it's my general appearance, and possibly my style of dress that makes people think I am younger. I'm not complaining. My mom and grandmother both have incredible skin, and my mother looks younger than her actual age as well. Hopefully I'll still look youthful and attractive when I'm in my 50s...
