1. I thought it was over-rated, and am really happy it didn't get a best picture nom.
2. I liked how the movie revealed show how awful the war was, and what happened to deserters. My knowledge of American history is quite poor, so I welcome any opportunity to be filled in.
3. The cinematography was great.
4. The bit parts- done by Natalie Portman, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Giovanni Ribisi, were all good.
5. The high point of the movie for me was definitely Renee Zellweger. I hope she wins best supporting. She was the best part of the movie and had the funniest lines, including - "Have you wrapped your legs around this Inman?" and "He's so full of manure that you could plant him in the ground and grow two of him."
6. Nicole Kidman was the low point of the movie. Her character was boring, she was stiff and wooden, and her accent sounded like she was in a high school play. However, she did get more interesting as the movie went on and she learned how to manage her farm.
7. I hated the love story. In general, it felt quite forced, and we wanted them to shut up and just get to the sex scenes.
Jude Law did a good job with his part. However, all three people watching wished we could have seen more of his naked body, and less of his teasing naked shoulders.
All three of us cracked up at "I would follow you to Mongolia." This is only funny if someone in the room has actually travelled to Mongolia.
