B* and I went to see Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow a few days ago. It's visually entertaining, but there isn't much in the way of plot. It didn't stick or resonate with me in any way and probably would have done better as a summer release.

Before the movie, we saw a number of stupid previews, including one for an Adam Sandler movie called Spanglish . B* wisely identified the film as one of those Hollywood films in which a character of an ethnic minority helps the white folks feel.

We also saw a preview for "A series of Unfortunate events." This was my first time seeing the preview for this movie on the big screen, and I bounced up and down in my seat. The film also has a great website , which was obviously designed by someone who has actually read the books and appreciates the tone of them.

didn't like sky captain much myself. i appreciated what they were trying to do, and the ray guns were cool, but that still didn't stop me from falling asleep (quite literally) during the "exciting" parts.
