Yesterday I had a phone conversation with my good friend Ramona, during which we attempted to define Saskatchewan humour. I think we may have succeeded. Saskatchewan humour is dead-pan and quiet. It's usually self-deprecating, and about something that has an element of truth to it- like gender politics, or the poor economic state of Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan humour is accurately depicted on "Corner gas." For example, there was one scene last season in which one of the characters said, "You know, I really don't feel comfortable seeing a woman play pinball."

I saw a preview/commercial for "Corner Gas" last week, after I missed the entire show because I couldn't find the right channel on our TV until the final five minutes of it. The "dead-pan and quiet...usually self-deprecating, and about something that has an element of truth to it" was completely clear. The quote was "You don't see cops on TV playing hacky sack." Not being from there, I'd've assumed the type of humour was just the show, rather than the province. Cool.
