If you have friends who don't have dental plans and who are looking for a new dentist, I highly recommend Mid Main Dental Clinic .

I have to write about this because it was such a rare and pleasing event. Today I tried a new dentist and was pleasantly surprised. I had gone to another dentist here, and had dreaded returning for a long time. I have VERY sensitive gums which bleed like motherfuckers, mostly due to my overly dry mouth from mouthbreathing (I have allergies and had a deviated septum as a child), and dryness from antidepressants. Anyway, let's just say that I have a lot of dental issues.

The last time I went to the dentist I felt sick as hell. Besides this, I also felt like I was being gouged and made to pay more than I could afford, and so I was thinking about switching dentists. Someone recommended the Mid Main Dental clinic on the Vancouver lj community, and mentioned that they offer 10% off for people with no insurance! As a struggling writer/book whore/whatever I am, I was ecstatic.

Today I booked my appointment, and was treated with ease and efficiency. The main dentist was very chatty and gave me a lot of info and explained everything he was doing to me. He allowed me to ask a lot of questions and spoke to me in an easy to understand way. Then, since I was there, they asked me if I wanted some cleaning. I said yes, and I met with the hygienist, who told me that she would have to freeze me because of my tartar build up/gum issues. I hate being given needles, so I was nervous, but she was so amazingly good and made me concentrate on my breathing. I didn't even feel her give me the needle! She also told me that I could improve my mouth by taking certain vitamins, and told me some things I could do for my teeth. She was easy to understand, holistic (which is a big thing with me as I'm a huge believer in holistic health treatment that treats wellness rather than disease), and really friendly and gentle.

The whole thing cost half of what I'd pay at the other clinic, and was 1000 times more pleasant. I'm going to get fillings and more cleanings done in December.

Very good to know, thank you! I definitely will need a dentist sometime soon, but I always put it off because of my lack of insurance. I'll write down the name of this clinic, it sounds perfect.

Awesome, I am actually looking for a good dentist. I have benefits at work for the first time, which is great but it also means that I haven't been to the dentist in years since I didn't have insurance for so long. I have been dreading it and this makes me feel a whole lot better about the prospect.
