My roommate planted our garden. Let the growing season begin! I never thought I'd be a gardening enthusiast but last year changed that for me.

I am getting used to this 9-5 thing and scheduling in the writing. I'm caught up with my editing, Ricepaper is all taken care of for now, and I finished a story a couple nights ago. I have a new one to work on, titled "Meat is my mistress." I'm compelled to finish it because it came out of a very funny conversation that B* and I had and I'm dying to write it. I have one more freelance article to work on, but other than that I'm going to concentrate on some fiction for now.

I had a crappy sleep on Sunday (about 4 hours), so I was braindead yesterday and spent last night trying to watch "Kingdom of Heaven", which I didn't even finish despite Orlando Bloom and his shiny sword. Man, I haven't been so bored by a film in a long time.

Work is going well. I'm learning more about dancers and various dance companies. I learned that one of our artists in residence does "site-specific" work. This is a form of dance that's quite popular in the UK, but hasn't really caught on in North America. Dancers create pieces based on environments and present the dances to the public in these environments. One of our artists in residence created a piece in the Downtown East Side, which is Vancouver's poorest area. I wish I'd seen it.

We also had another artist in residence Aeriosa who do aerial dance, which involves ropes, pullies and dancing on the side of mountains or buildings. I watched a short video and now I'm dying to see it live. Apparently company members danced on the side of our building for the opening in 2001.

my father, who's a big history buff, recommended kingdom of heaven to me. but i agree with your opinion - i was extremely bored. perhaps if you're a medievalist, the politics could be interesting, but i just couldn't get into it. plus, certain aspects of the story, like the love stuff, was completely nonsensical.

I know one of the dancers from Aereosa-- Abby Watkins-- she's a world-class rock/ice climber, and I took some workshops with her a few years ago at a women's climbing conference in New Hampshire. She is SO amazingly lovely, and the way she climbs...it *is* dance.

Hi! Do you have any tips on things to try growing first? I was going to start with herbs. (We have a small balcony.)

Herbs in pots are probably a good way to start. I'd look at yougrowgirl.com for more info. The book is good too!
