I've been reading all the stories on China's demographics and the problems it may cause for the future . Does anyone see a science fiction story emerging here?

It seems that the preference for boys has resulted in a HUGE population imbalance in China, which will leave 1 in 10 men without any female prospects for marriage

This has given me two possible ideas for action-

1. Find rich Chinese bachelor for own personal use
2. Start import/export business bringing Chinese North American women to the mainland.

my very religious uncle sees the imbalance in china's population as a sign of the second coming. as he says: what else will an army of single unmarried me do if not start a massive global war? the sign of the end days!

I'm surpised, though, that it's 10-1! that's crazy!

I've started about ten girl shortage stories over the years, even finished one, but haven't been happy with the result.

One general consensus seems to be that there will be a lot of importing of girls to countries which practiced this sex selection, and that women may be married, forcibly, at younger and younger ages.

Well, there are other possibilities:

1. STRONG government incentives for producing female children. (ie. promoting selective abortions of male children.)

2. Heavy importation of females from countries less well off than the class of people who can afford to do this in China. (Here in Korea, a lot of lower-middle class men are importing brides from China, Vietnam, Thailand, Phillipines, as younger Korean women are not willing to marry them.) Since China's expected to really keep booming, there's always going to be somewhere where young women (or their families) are "happy" (ie. economically morivated) to fill that need.

3. (And this is my personal favorite, the one that figures in an old novel I drafted and which is soon to be salvaged for a short story or two):

Heavy military use of surplus young men. For example, cutting a deal with the WTO or the UN to provide massive numbers of Chinese troops as "volunteers." So they end up working off China's Greenhouse Debts by suppressing genocides and civil wars in Africa and Central Asia, being rented by Russia for riot police work in seceding regions, hired (cheapest subcontract soldiers in the world) by America to patrol the streets of Tehran and Baghdad, and so on.

There's a fourth possibility, but it's high in my story-idea file and I don't want to blow the idea by blabbing too much right now. :)
