The past two days have been dreary and cold, and it's affected my mood. I've felt, well, dreary and cold. I'm currently working on a story about extravagant grade 12 grads, and how much you can spend for grad. In some cases, girls actually buy wedding dresses to wear. I also found that some girls start tanning and going to the gym three months in advance, and a tiara will set you back $60-$120. Yeesh.

I told my editor, and several of the women working in the front that I was never going to graduate from high school again, because there was no way I could afford it. My dress for high school graduation was $75. It was a 1930s style ivory lace thing and I looked like a 1930s film star in it. I was, and still am, in love with that dress.

One thing that has come clear to me in the past few days is that I love to laugh. One of my greatest joys is to say something funny and make the people around me laugh. I think I always knew this, but it's something I have realized even more in the past few months. I really value a good sense of humour and am impressed by wit and humour that draws on cultural references. And in case you think I'm too high brow, I'm also impressed by puns and word play.

Another recent obsession? Alfred Hitchcock movies. Last night I watched "To Catch a thief" and I was absolutely in love with it. Grace Kelly was gorgeous and Cary Grant, was well, Cary Grant. Do I really need to say more? I love Hitchcock's style, I love his shots, I love the darkness and suspense he develops and I loved the witty banter in this movie. The flirting between Kelly and Grant was exquisite.

Kelly, offering a piece of chicken to Grant- You want a leg or a breast?
Grant- You make the choice.

Thankfully, Hitch has a huge list of films, so I'll be able to feed my obsession for a few months.

I finished writing another short story yesterday. I've written two short stories in two weeks for those of you who are following along at home.

Tiara?! Wedding gown?! My formal attire consisted of a dress I bought one week before and accessories from Claire's.

Hmph. Kids today.

To Catch a Thief is my absolute favorite Hitchcock film. Perfection! Have you seen North by Northwest yet?

Nope, it's on my list.
So far I've seen- Vertigo, Rebecca, Notorious and To Catch a thief.

(Not a fan of Notorious, but I loved everything else)

Rebecca and Notorious were meh to me. But I love all the Cary Grant ones, and all the Tippi Hedren ones (The Birds and Marni)

My dress was $300 (bought three days before the event and altered the morning of because I was living out of country at the time and had just come back for my grad...) then hair & makeup was $150...

The dress no longer fits. Tsk.

Wow. Here we just stick on clothes under shiny synthetic graduation robes, and that's it.
