Last night we stayed at the Chinggis hotel. We ate supper at the Chinggis restaurant and drank Chinggis beer. Then we went to the Chinggis opera. Picked up a bottle of Chinggis vodka on the way home.
All the money we used has had Chinggis on it, of course. Today we are going to the Chinggis ger camp. Before this, we are going to to watch the Chinggis band, and go to the Chinggis exhibit at the National History Museum. We would also like to buy a Chinggis carpet, and a Chinggis chess set.
Did you know that they're making a movie about Chinggis? Steven Seagal is financing it.
(Whew! Special note- All these Chinggis things exist. I didn't invent any of them. Writing this reminded me of the smurfs and their overuse of the word "smurf".

The long and winding rant
Jun. 24th, 2003 02:44 pmI feel crappy and bitchy basically because i'm not feeling well. My legs still hurt, my head hurts, I'm tired and I have allergies.
Good thing- I got into Ingrid's apartment and did laundry. Thank god.
Anyway, I went out for lunch and this really annoying dude insisted on sitting with me. This is one of those 50 year old pervy expats who hits on all women and pretends that they are popular and knowledgeable about all of Mongolia. I'm not buying what you're trying to sell me. Please go away.
I just want to rant about expats in general, because this has been bugging me for a while. I don't think it's fair or ethical to cheat on your partner. There are so many guys here from other countries who have Mongolian girlfriends, and then leave them and go back to their wives. In my opinion, this is just a trashy and disrespectful situation for both the wives and the girlfriends. Plus, what is the point of getting married if you're going to cheat? My belief is that two people get married because they would rather be with each other than anyone else.
I've heard some horror stories. An American volunteer impregnated a Mongolian girl, and then went back to the United States, completely avoiding and neglecting the situation. Peace Corps Volunteers have called for women, and local people bring these women to pleasure the volunteers.
I only have stories about men, but I am sure that there are lots of randy foreign women too.
This just sickens and annoys me. I don't think you should be constantly dropping your pants just because you're a foreigner. You shouldn't feel that you can take advantage of people.
I believe that you should respect yourself, respect others, and respect the culture you're in.
And now, I'm going to take a nap, as I clearly need one.

"You know, it's so rare to find a good audience for one's story. Most people get restless when a stranger tells them about his life. But you were a perfect listener...."
....
"Let me tell you a secret: there is no such thing as an uninteresting life."
"Try mine."
"I would love to. One day you must tell me your full and complete story, unabridged and unexpurgated. We will set aside some time for it and meet. It's very important."
"Why is it important?"
"You don't know? It's extremely important because it helps to remind yourself of who you are. Then you can go forward, without fear of losing yourself in this ever-changing world."
