I don't understand science. I can barely tie my shoes. But I understand human emotions. So let me write about that and we'll get to the good stuff.
-Joss Whedon, creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

I worked at the Fringe last night, and saw a play that I absolutely hated. I ended up having to usher during that play, so it wasn't one that I went to voluntarily. I finished reading Ruth Ozeki's "All over Creation", which was fabulous, but not as good as "My year of meats." This books dealt with multiracial families, plants, creation, family relations, activism and biotechnology. I stayed up late reading it.

I'm going to go see plays today. I've got some free passes that I want to use up, and I want to take my bike in to my friend's bike store to get tuned up. I'll probably sit in the back of the store, talking to friends who work in the store.

I've been thinking I should read "The Pillow book", but this quote has further influenced my decision....

As will be gathered
from these notes of mine,
I am the sort of person
who approves
of what others abhor
and detests
the things they like.

—Sei Shonagon, The Pillow Book
circa 1000 AD

So it's now two weeks until I will be leaving for my next trip, and I'm already starting to get excited. However, I'm going to have to start arranging things soon, as there are so many steps, stops and logistics to take care of on this trip. My flight to Ottawa is being booked, and I can already fly from Victoria to Ottawa. However, when I return to Saskatoon, I have to fly to Calgary, before I go back to Saskatoon. This means that I actually have to fly OVER Saskatchewan, and then go back in the other direction, adding hours to my trip. This is because there are few flights to Saskatchewan because of our small population number. I'll probably end up accepting the flight, but I just think it's pretty dumb.

[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], I'll call my family friend soon and figure out if there's a shuttle to the Edmonton airport so I can catch my flight to Vancouver. I don't think I'll be staying at Amanda's then, as that's a day after everyone else will have left, and I want to spend some time with family friend (and possibly some friends from Wainwright who go to Edmonton a lot.)

I had a great day today. I biked down to the Fringe to see some plays. On the way there, I was biking near the art gallery when I saw a man fall in a bush, so I stopped and helped him up. He said, "I just live nearby, and I go for walks two times a day. I just happened to fall. Thanks for helping me up. I don't know what I'll do when I get old." (He told me he was 85)

When I got to the Fringe, I went and signed myself up to see some plays. The first play I saw was a two biller"Fishing Buddies" and "Dancing Backwards." The decision to see this play was sperm of the moment based on the fact that "Fishing Buddies" was a play about Jesus and Buddha fishing together. I also enjoyed "Dancing backwards", which was about a man dealing with his past and self identity as a writer and Buddhist who had travelled to Asia. (Take one guess why I liked this play.) I was so moved during the play that I almost started to cry. After the play, I went up to the actor I knew in the play and told him how much I enjoyed it. He thanked me for coming, and then gave me a hug, which was pretty cool since I don't really know him all that well.

The second play I saw today was called "AWOL" (Aboriginals Without Leave) and it was about First Nations deserters during World War 2. It was a great story, and very disturbing. The cast was comprised of native youth who belong to the Saskatoon Native Theatre Company, and they did a great job. I think my mom may go see this at a later date.

After that, I ran into some old friends on the street. I saw my friend Ed, who drove his motorcycle up from Calgary to see another friend, Matt, who is in town from Spain. Matt is an old friend who trained at circus school in Montreal. He is now a professional entertainer. At one point, Matt participated in a program teaching entertainment skills to Chilean street children so they could earn money. (No, I'm not making this up.) Anyway, I hung out with them before biking home. On the way home, I passed four wedding parties(but no funerals).

Ed might come over for a visit tonight, or my friend Jesse might give me a call. He's partying today because it's his birthday. I'm pretty mellow though, so Dad and I might just watch some Wong Kar Wai.

So as you may be able to guess, today was a very pleasant day.
