Dec. 27th, 2003 09:42 amI haven't felt like updating. Things have been very quiet lately.
Christmas was peaceful. It was just the 4 of us. We ate a nice seafood dinner on Christmas eve. On Christmas day, we opened presents and then played the new Canadian edition of Trivial Pursuit.
I managed to get a streptococcus infection so I spent most of Christmas day wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. However, I went to the doctor on boxing day, and since it's healing, I don't have to go on antibiotics.
Christmas was really mellow and low-key which was nice.
Yesterday I worked on an article for Planet S, and continued to work on the first draft of my newest short story. We had some family friends over for supper last night, which was lots of fun.
Good movies watched- "The crime of Padre Amaro" which stars Gael Garcial Bernal as a sinful priest. It's an excellent and disturbing film.
"The Guru"- about an Indian man who comes to the USA wanting to be famous. A very cute little film.
Books read since the 24th-
Native Speaker by Chang-Rae Lee- An excellent book about a Korean American man, his relationship with his wife and his livelihood as a spy.
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstree- Dai Sije- translated from the French, this is the tale of two intellectuals who are taken to the mountains to get re-educated during the Cultural Revolution. A story about how books can transform lives. A very beautiful book.
The New Rules of High School- Blake Nelson- A decent Blake Nelson book. I think I write a bit like Blake Nelson, so reading him is always an interesting experience for me.
