Jan. 12th, 2004 07:35 amI'm reading and studying Hemingway's "Men without women." I love the tight, sparse nature of his prose. I wish I could write like Hemingway, except without the misogyny, alcoholism and bull fighting.
Are those crickets I hear chirping?

In a somewhat unrelated note, I'm going to a copyediting course tonight. It's three hours long and put on by the Editors Association of Canada.

Jan. 12th, 2004 07:38 amOver the weekend, I read Joe Sacco's "Safe area- Gorazde". It's an excellent graphic novels depicting the true tales of residents in Eastern Bosnia during the war. Sacco practices what he describes as "comics journalism." This book is exactly that.
It's historically interesting, intriguing, moving and engrossing.

When I read stuff like this, I realize why I'm frustrated with my life right now. I want to be doing stuff like this, and instead, I'm a temp.
Hey, does anyone else hear those crickets?

Hey, does anyone else hear those crickets?
And my ass gets kicked again...
Jan. 12th, 2004 08:21 amMy mother reminded me that I have to pay taxes on the stipend I lived on last year. This means that I probably won't move until after I have to pay these taxes, since I don't know how much they will be, and I don't want to fork over $500 when I'm living on a little bit of money.
Does anyone else feel like kicking me right now? Let's get it over with.

Jan. 12th, 2004 09:56 amI'm been reading Belle's blog on and off for a while. For those who don't know, she's a British callgirl with a blog. People have been wondering if she's real or a clever fake. I find it entertaining either way.

It appears the National Post has finally caught on.

Jan. 12th, 2004 10:07 amHere's an interesting little article about how Britney Spears' wedding fiasco might have actually helped gay couples get married- http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?itemid=16245
Three items-
1.After finishing a collection of short stories by Hemingway, I'm now reading a collection of short stories by Chekov. This kind of thing might be why even some of my close friends forget that my degree is in International Studies, and not English.
2. Something you probably shouldn't say to an ex boyfriend-
Him- "You haven't changed since you were 16."
You- "What are you talking about? I have a way nicer rack."
3. I coined a new term -"niche dating." This is when a particular person is drawn to a particular type of other person. Incidentally, "retrodating" is when you decide to re-date an old boyfriend or girlfriend, years later. "Circle dating" is when you date several people in the same group of friends, one right after the other.
example of niche dating- "Why I've just been passed around the drama department."
- a good friend who had dated three actors
