I have been pretty sick since last Wednesday, but I finally managed to put in a regular work day today. In fact, I'm just between shifts and will be heading to the bookstore right now. During all of my sickness, our network crashed and so I was unable to update you all on the numbers of hours I spent laying on my couch (many), the episodes of "Freaks and Geeks" that I watched (6), the books I read (2), the movies I watched (2) and the times I tried to leave my house to attend an event only to burn myself out and have to go back to bed. (2)

By the way, I'd never seen "Freaks and Geeks" before. Consider me a fan now.

More later.

I think I did well on my midterm, despite the fact that I was ill while writing it. After I wrote it, I went back home and collasped on the couch in front of the tv. At about 7, B* came by to pick me up and we commuted to Lick, where we were the first people to arrive for the fundraiser. Eventually everyone else showed up, and the place was packed! I got to see a lot of my Colouring Book friends, and got lots of hugs. I wasn't feeling super social, so I mainly sat in the corner with B*, but I still felt a lot of love. I also got a great massage from my friend Hui Ling, which was direly needed as my body ached from being sick.

I was actually the first performer, and I read two of my poems. It was one of the best crowds I've ever read to, probably because it consisted of a lot of friends who cheered and hugged me when I got off stage. The performances were great, the crowd was fun, and I think we made some good money and everyone had a good time. I didn't stay for the dance portion of the evening. Instead, I hurried home and went back to bed.

Rosa Parks has died . I can't really write anything about this that doesn't sound trite to me.

Thank you.

Over the weekend, I watched "Freaks and Geeks" and "Lords of Dogtown". I was prepared to be rather skeptical of "Dogtown" simply because I had loved the "Dogtown and Z-boys" documentary. However, I was amused by the performances and style of the movie, rather than the plot. If you've seen "Dogtown and Z-boys", you know the plot of "Lords of Dogtown." I quite enjoyed Heath Ledger's performance, but in my mind, the real star of the show is Emile Hirsch playing Jay Adams. I think Emile is quite a talented actor, an opinion which was formed when I watched him in "The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys." I even think that if he plays his cards right, he could end up in the same kind of role/stardom as a young Leonardo. He just have to stay away from stuff like "The Girl next Door" (nope, I haven't seen it, but I rest my case.) "Lords of Dogtown" is fairly amusing for a little low brow entertainment, and some decent skateboarding. Apparently, the kids did most of their own stunts in the movie, and they do a decent job. I'm actually glad that I didn't see this in the theatre, as I might have gotten motion sick. There are cameos by a lot of the original Z-boys in the "Lords of Dogtown", which you'll only spot if you watch the extras on the DVD like I did.
