Lords of Dogtown

Over the weekend, I watched "Freaks and Geeks" and "Lords of Dogtown". I was prepared to be rather skeptical of "Dogtown" simply because I had loved the "Dogtown and Z-boys" documentary. However, I was amused by the performances and style of the movie, rather than the plot. If you've seen "Dogtown and Z-boys", you know the plot of "Lords of Dogtown." I quite enjoyed Heath Ledger's performance, but in my mind, the real star of the show is Emile Hirsch playing Jay Adams. I think Emile is quite a talented actor, an opinion which was formed when I watched him in "The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys." I even think that if he plays his cards right, he could end up in the same kind of role/stardom as a young Leonardo. He just have to stay away from stuff like "The Girl next Door" (nope, I haven't seen it, but I rest my case.) "Lords of Dogtown" is fairly amusing for a little low brow entertainment, and some decent skateboarding. Apparently, the kids did most of their own stunts in the movie, and they do a decent job. I'm actually glad that I didn't see this in the theatre, as I might have gotten motion sick. There are cameos by a lot of the original Z-boys in the "Lords of Dogtown", which you'll only spot if you watch the extras on the DVD like I did.
