The FBI has hacked into the Indymedia.org system, and it's down all over the world.

This is from slashdot-
Today at about 18:00 CET FBI raided the indymedia servers hosted by Rackspace both in US and England. At present, the italian indymedia and numerous other local IMC websites are obscured, while the reasons why the hard drives were taken are still unknown."

I don't have to say why this pisses me off, now do I?

[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] informs me that the FBI took the Rackspace server. So they didn't hack in, but the end result is the same.

wow. and didn't the FBI shut down a bunch of local radio stations just a few weeks ago? i'm shocked the administration's letting them pull this Patriot Act bullshit less than a month before an election.

The "all over the world" part is horrible! Googling now.

More (http://www.indymedia.org/en/2004/10/111987.shtml), via boingboing (http://www.boingboing.net/). "Raided/hacked" doesn't get the story quite right, I don't think - the FBI gained physical possession of the indymedia servers by issuing an order to Rackspace, which provided the space that hosted the indymedia sites. Not that it makes the end result any different.
