I'm scared of hand related injuries, including carpal tunnel and tendonitis. I spend a lot of my time typing or writing. I try to do some yoga hand stretches, but occasionally, I find that my fingers are still stiff. Does anyone have any tips or ideas for me?

Thanks.

the cobra pose is supposed to be very good for easing carpal tunnel symptoms.

i do exercises every day to keep my CTS at bay, and so far, so good (knock wood!). i stretch my arms (ease the tension on that median nerve!), do wrist exercises with weights every morning, mind my ergonomics...

me too. I've got some nerve damage in my left hand. Well, technically, the nerve is in my elbow -- my ulnar nerve has some weird stuff going on. At least, I'm assuming this is the case, since my pinkie and half of my ring finger (the exact spots controlled by the ulnar nerve) have been numb for about a month and a half.

I really should go see a doctor about that.

I've been doing the alternating hot pack / cold pack thing, but still waking up in the middle of the night with pain and numbness.

One of the biggest risk factors (if not in fact the biggest) for repetitive stress injuries is not anything to do with how you actually use your hands, but rather how happy you are with what you are doing. People with low job satisfaction are worlds more likely to get carpal tunnel et al. So stay happy! Your wrists will thank you!

I found that acupuncture worked really well for treating these injuries. It was also suggested that I approach the work with a more relaxed grip. Be aware of how the muscles are being used. The herbal adhesive tape, "701" dieda zhengtong yaogao, is good for fast relief. Good luck.

I developed tendonitis from my last job that I hated for 3+ years. So that was interesting about low job satisfaction = more likely to get these types of injuries.

I went for two months of physio to no avail, but they taught me a few stretches that I can show you the next time we meet.

I also went to acupuncture and it was AMAZING. I still feel it flaring up once in awhile, but for the most part it's better. It also helps that I am no longer working. :)
