Last night, B* and I went to see House of Flying Daggers , which is nominated for an award in cinematography. I'm glad that it is nominated as it was a gorgeous movie, and I'm glad to see more international movies receive nominations.
This movie has more of a romantic storyline that "Hero." I also found it a lot more erotic than "Hero", although the attempted rape scenes really disturbed me. B* commented that although the scenes were sexy, they still respect Chinese censorship by not showing a lot of skin or body parts.
I liked the plot twists in this movie and found it easier to follow than "Hero." However, I didn't like the violence in the ending very much.
Still, it's a beautiful film and I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed looking at Takeshi Kaneshiro, who is an incredibly good looking man.
