I've been watching a lot of movies lately, partially because I've been working a lot. Since I read and write all day at work, I am occasionally too brain dead to do either of these things when I am at home. Plus, it's the long weekend and almost everyone I know is away.
Kinky Boots- What a cute film! I really liked Chitewel Elijofor's speech about the bad boots. It goes something like -"Burgundy, Burgundy? I've inspired something BURGUNDY. RED! RED! RED! RED is the colour of sex and death and stoplights, of passion. My favourite things! (If I'd heard this before, I would have put it as an epigraph in my book, because it fits perfectly.) I also LOVED the motto of this movie- "Change your mind about someone."That's something I believe in.
Raise the Red Lantern- This was a Chinese film about 4 wives in a family. It's about the powerplay between the various wives and what happens to them. I really liked this film. In fact, it's pretty much cemented Zhang Yimou as my favourite Asian director.
Bee Season- I had to watch this to see how they butchered such a great book. And yes, it was butchered. But the girl who played Eliza did a good job, and I like watching Richard Gere because he is my Buddhist old man crush. (Ahem)
Candy- This is an Australian film starring a brown haired Heath Ledger. I LOVED this movie, even though it contained one of the most disturbing scenes I've seen in a movie in a while. It's the story of a couple in love who become heroin addicts. The plot focuses more on how their addiction destroys their relationship than anything else. A highly disturbing, underrated film. I really wish that Heath had gotten more attention for his performance in this because it is PHENOMENAL.
Lie with Me- A Canadian film about lust and sex. This horny girl sees Eric Balfour from Six Feet Under and proceeds to have graphic sex with him. Sometimes Canadians like to make movies that are like porn and this is one of those times. Sadly, I actually got a bit bored during this movie, but I think that's because I had just watched Candy the night before and this movie could not measure up, despite the fact that Eric Balfour spends at least half of the movie naked.

Thanks for the review on Candy. I was curious about it but will definitely watch it now!
